Stories from home
Creating collections for Pops & Piaf is always rooted in the changing of the seasons in the Scottish countryside and creating a home that is deeply personal, warm and welcoming throughout the year. Inspired by rose tinted nostalgia and the art, films and books that give us a small glimpse into a world where even the most practical objects are beautiful. We lean into the time honoured tradition that the items that surround us should become heirlooms and that anything we need can be carefully collected, mended or made using the skills we have spent a lifetime learning.
The stories behind our collections come from my small home in Scotland and my time spent, in days gone by, as a wedding florist, a student dressmaker, the many years in hospitality spent serving, cooking & cleaning and more recently, as a prop collector and a jack of all trades small business owner. I will share with you the subtle changes I make to my home to honour the season that we are in or the one we are fast approaching. Time often feels too fast and the world, a little too heavy, but these are the small projects I take on to inspire myself, to slow time down again and make something new out of something old. I may make a scene to please my tired eyes or a mask to cover them while I rest. I will share the treasure I find out in the world to bring back home to freshen up my daily scenery and how I sort it all away, so it’s easy to find when I need it for my next project. The additions and changes to my home are often so small, only I would notice them, or so big they change our whole home for a season, but each one brings me daily comfort and joy. They make my home feel fresh in the summer and cosy in the winter, they enhance the smallest moments of my day, turning them into sacred rituals. These small acts of kindness to myself usually fall into one of four categories; styling, making, collecting or sorting. Each month, I’ll be sharing a something new from each of these categories with you, whether it be through a blog post, a video, a guide or a workshop. Over time this space will become a comforting place you can refer back to when you need a moment to slow down and connect with your home.
You will have access to all previous Stories while you are a member with over a years worth of stories to look back on and revisit whenever you’d like to. You can also easily come and go as you please (although bare in mind that the membership fee may have changed since you last joined).
